Abstract: For decision of the problem of the type selection for the new research nuclear reactor, an available reactor's classifications were analyzed in accordance with their technical parameters, design peculiarities and directions of use. It was established that an optimal solution is the multi-purpose open-pool type research nuclear reactor with the thermal power of 20 - 30 MW and averaged neutron flux of (2.0 - 4.0) · 1014 n · cm-2 · s-1 using the nuclear fuel with the enrichment ≤ 20 % for 235U.
